Different Types of Roulette
Nowadays there exist 3 types of roullete:
American roulette (Double zero roulette) has 38 numbers on its wheel, including 1 to 36, 0, and 00.
European roulette (Single zero roulette) has 37 numbers on its wheel, including 1 to 36 and 0.
French roulette (Single zero roulete). It is an ancestor of European roulette, it has the same wheel but the playing field of different kind.
American roulette is played with multicoloured chips and every player has got chips of a certain colour that makes the procedure of doing bets much easier. Such a kind of chips is usually bought of a dealer on a concrete roulette table and not used in other games. After the player has finished the game his chips are exchanged either for money or traditional chips.
In European roulette standard chips which the players receive in a cash desk are used. A croupier takes away the "old" bets with a special little spade, but in American casinos he does it by hands.
Equipment for the game of roulette
In European casinos you can find roulette tables with 2 playing fields and one wheel in the centre. 16 people inclusive can play at one table. 3 persons serve tha game, one in the middle throws the ball, 2 assistents serve their playing fields. Very often these two fields have got different limits of bets.
In the USA a dealer serves the roulette table himself, he turns the wheel but his assistent sorts chips. 6 persons inclusive can play at one table.
Behavior at table during the game
In European casinos there's more elegant atmosphare which demands a stricter style of clothes. Besides, a great number of casinos are the private clubs opened only for their own members. It is typical first of all for casinos in England.
In the USA the style of clothes and manners are more democratic. The tip is supposed to be given but in England it is not.
In France the tip is often obligatory!
Special rules
The rule "En Prison"
In the game of roulette in European casinos a special rule concerning the bets on "equal chances"(red/black, even/odd, big/small) can be used. If zero drops out a bet doesn't burn and stays on its own place "in prison". If zero drops out again after the next rotation of roulette the bet is lost. In any other case the bet is given back to its owner but a prize is not paid.
